We are hiring a Software Development Engineer in Test focused on building and scaling automated testing systems for our robotics platform. Our robots climb boiler walls, storage tanks, and ship hulls to collect ultrasonic data that tells customers how much life their infrastructure has left. This role builds the software our operators use to run those robots and capture that data in the field.
You will work on the system operators actually touch on site: driving the robot, watching data come in live, and knowing whether the run is good before anyone leaves. It runs on hardware at the job site, often in difficult conditions, and it has to work the first time.
Right now the team is extending that software to support a new robot, an underwater system used for ship hull inspection. We are working with vendors to develop a solution specific to this application. Your job will be to take what they deliver and make it real: integrate it, harden it, and make the results legible to an operator standing on a pier.
Build software that works in the field. Networks drop, sensors disconnect, and there is no one to escalate to at 6am on a customer site. You will design for that.
Own the seams between systems. Our field software coordinates multiple services and talks to robots we build and robots we do not. Much of the work is making those boundaries reliable.
Take other people's work across the finish line. Prototypes, research deliverables, and partner code arrive in a state that is not shippable. Turning those into something operators depend on is a core part of this job.
Make data understandable. Operators need to see where the robot has been and what it found, in three dimensions, while the run is still happening.
Go to the field. You will see your software used, which is the fastest way to learn what is wrong with it.

Gecko Robotics is building production-grade robotic manipulation systems that embed intelligent inspection directly into active manufacturing environments. In this role, you will architect and develop ROS2-based control, perception, and motion planning systems for 6-axis articulated manipulators operating in real-world industrial settings. These robotic systems integrate a wide range of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods and sensing and optimize inspection throughput, improve product quality, and enable better downstream manufacturing decisions.
Given the work you'll be doing on some of our impactful government projects, you must also be eligible for a US clearance.
Architect and evolve Gecko’s ROS2-based control framework and planning systems for articulated manipulators
Develop perception-driven motion planning using visual and other sensor inputs
Design closed-loop inspect → analyze → rework workflows
Optimize robotic inspection throughput within active manufacturing lines
Own system-level integration between robot control stack, industrial hardware and Gecko’s inspection software
Support system deployment and validation in production environments

What you will do

Role at a Glance
Gecko Robotics is seeking an AI/ML Engineering Intern to join our Engineering team in New York for Summer 2027. This is a full-time, onsite internship, Monday through Friday.
Gecko collects some of the richest inspection data in the world: ultrasonic and other non-destructive testing (NDT) measurements from wall-climbing robots, paired with the documents, drawings, and operational records that describe the assets they inspect. You will work on a defined project that turns that data into decisions, building models and the systems around them that run reliably on real customer data. This is an engineering internship, not an analytics one. We build the systems that analyze the data, not just the analysis.
Due to government program requirements, candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
What you will do
Own a scoped machine learning project from problem framing through evaluation and integration, under the guidance of experienced engineers.
Build data pipelines in Python that clean, label, and structure NDT sensor data, documents, or operational records for model training and inference.
Train, evaluate, and iterate on models, and design evaluations that reflect how the output will be used in the field.
Integrate a model or LLM-based workflow into a service or tool that other engineers and Forward Deployment Engineers can use.
Investigate failure modes on messy, real-world data, document what you find, and recommend what to fix next.
Use version control, code review, testing, and experiment tracking to produce work others can reproduce and build on.
Present your project, results, and recommended next steps at the end of the internship.
Technologies We Use
Python, PyTorch or similar ML frameworks, NumPy and pandas, SQL, LLM APIs and agent frameworks, Git, Linux, and cloud infrastructure (GCP). Depending on the project, you may also work with signal-processing tools for ultrasonic data, document-processing and information-extraction pipelines, or orchestration tools such as Airflow. The specific tools will depend on the assigned project.
About You
You are an engineer who happens to work in machine learning. You care whether a model works on real data, not just on a benchmark, and you are comfortable owning the code around the model: the pipeline, the evaluation, and the integration. You approach new problems methodically, communicate clearly about results and uncertainty, and are excited to be the first person to look at a problem.

What You Will Do

Use customer feedback and delivery experience to shape product priorities and a technically credible path to follow-on work or renewal.
Product & GTM support

About You
\tRequired Skills
B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent engineering experience.
8+ years in aerospace mechanical design or structural engineering, including hands-on engineering responsibility on new-build or modification aircraft programs.
Strong hands-on CAD skills and fluency across mechanical engineering toolchains, including PLM/PDM and finite-element modeling; the toolchain family matters more than any specific vendor's tools. Strong command of aircraft structures, GD&T, metrology, tolerance stack-ups, and design conventions.
Experience developing new analytical methods, design tools, or engineering approaches and carrying them through validation and formal acceptance for program use.

We are hiring a Quality Engineer to build, formalize, and support the quality systems that underpin our product development and robot operations. Develop, document, and maintain quality processes across Gecko Robotics’s locations, including calibration and nonconforming product programs, engineering drawing release workflows, supplier performance, and configuration management procedures

Demonstrated proficiency in inspection planning, GD&T interpretation, and measurement system analysis
Experience managing supplier quality, including audits, FAI, and supplier corrective action processes

You’ll help define how people interact with 3D representations of real environments: understanding an inspection, coordinating robotic systems, interpreting findings, and accessing information where work happens. The Software Platform team’s purpose is to empower software engineers, reduce unnecessary blockers, and increase our velocity to create exceptional products. They do this by making software effortless to build, deploy, and manage. This role will specifically focus on leveling up our cloud architecture and automation, empowering engineers to manage and own their own deployments without needing extensive cloud expertise. We are looking for someone to become the primary owner of Gecko’s Cloud, supported by the rest of the team.

We use a variety of technologies, but we primarily operate using Python, React, and Typescript with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) as our primary cloud provider. Our cloud architecture is primarily serverless, stateless, and event-driven.
