Makai Labs is seeking a talented and highly adaptable Business Analyst to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting several areas of our lifecycle with new clients:
You will support the initial discovery process to understand how our clients do their work currently, capturing interview notes and parsing through their existing documentation, as well as documenting their present-day workflows and any associated files and data into comprehensive process diagrams.
During discovery, you will support the engineering team in understanding and documenting the current IT infrastructure and systems that our clients’ employees use to do their work. If the opportunity presents itself, you will also have the ability to assist the engineering team in building prototypes that align with the early vision of a business solution.
Once discovery is completed, you will support the team in solutions design and the testing and refinement of these new features with a select group of representative users.
Once the build is ready to pilot, you will participate in training new users on how to use the platform and capturing any feedback from users as they interact with it for the first time, owning a living roadmap of the build.
Once the solution launches, you will provide support for quickly resolving any issues our users encounter, as well as add items to the product backlog for any enhancements that can deliver better usability and functionality for our clients’ teams.

About the role
At Makai, we build and run cloud platforms for clients in healthcare and other high-stakes industries. You take a platform from an empty Azure subscription to production, make the architecture calls and live with them, and own the infrastructure as code, the pipelines and the monitoring. Much of this runs inside our clients’ own Azure environments, so you work with their infrastructure teams daily: reviewing their designs, explaining what we need and why, and keeping work moving when it depends on them.
The ideal candidate will be able to
Design, build and maintain Azure environments with Terraform across multiple subscriptions, from networking and identity to a running application
Build and maintain CI/CD for applications and infrastructure in Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions and similar platforms: release promotion with approvals, secure deployment identities and repository synchronization

Proven experience designing CI/CD systems for both applications and infrastructure on Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or comparable platforms, across many repositories and environments

Makai Labs builds AI systems that automate real work inside companies. As a Forward Deployed AI Analyst, you will train with Makai’s engineering, product, and client teams, then embed in one of our client engagements to find the workflows worth automating and build AI agents that handle them. You will work directly with the people who run the business, and your work is done when their teams rely on what you built.
This is an early-career role. You will see how a company actually runs from the inside, rapidly become a subject matter expert, and iterate on prototypes to improve their workflows.
You will spend about your first month in training and shadowing, then take one workflow end to end alongside a Makai lead before working more independently.
Engagements vary, but most follow the same arc. You start by learning how the work is done today. Discovery tasks include interviewing client Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), reading the documents they work from, and mapping the systems involved. Based on this discovery, you propose what to automate, work with the client team to write the spec, and build a prototype on Makai's platform. Makai engineers support the technical work throughout. If the prototype holds up with client practitioners, you run the rollout and measure productivity and ROI.
Not every project reaches every stage. Some end at discovery, and some prototypes don't survive user testing. Part of the job is figuring out what won’t work, so that we can focus our effort optimally.
Over time, Analysts will get put onto career development tracks toward AI engineering, product and implementation, or engagement leadership, depending on performance and interest.
