We're hiring a Porto Site Lead in our Porto location to keep the safety pipeline healthy during EU hours and make sure work moves seamlessly between Porto and the U.S. You'll be Porto's advocate for safety operations — turning local signals into global action, helping teams adopt improvements that stick, and explaining what changed and why in plain language.
You'll sit in Trust & Safety so you have real operational context, but your remit is site-wide: chairing the Porto Leadership Council, partnering with the Admin/HR partner, and helping represent the needs of all Porto teams (not just T&S) in big decisions. You'll lead through influence at first (no direct reports initially, with dotted-line relationships) and report to the Director of Trust & Safety Operations (based in the U.S.).
As the site and product evolve, there is room for this role to grow into a broader people-lead scope based on business need and alignment with our leveling framework.
Experience in Trust & Safety, risk, operations, or a related field, including site or regional leadership responsibility — typically 7–10 years, or equivalent combination of experience and scope
Experience leading teams or sites in the EU/UK region
Has measurably improved operational performance in a prior role — able to point to specific changes made and outcomes achieved using data and structured problem solving
Experience working with or managing vendors/BPOs
Communicates clearly in English and Portuguese — able to translate complex safety decisions into plain language for local teams and explain operational changes to a U.S.-based leadership team
Comfort operating in a global, matrixed environment and leading through influence as well as direct management
Familiarity with EU/UK online safety expectations and how they translate into day-to-day operations
Experience representing a regional site in global or cross-functional planning processes

About the Team
The Data Foundations team at Patreon builds the pipelines, models, and infrastructure that power both customer-facing and internal data products. The Data Infrastructure function within the team owns the foundational platform — streaming, batch, and data lake infrastructure — that every data pipeline, analytics workload, and ML system at Patreon runs on.

About the Role
Architect, build, and operate large scale batch and streaming platforms that directly power Patreon product features, analytics, and experimentation.
Stand up and scale event-driven and streaming systems (Kafka, Kinesis, PubSub, or similar) for real-time data ingestion, transformation, aggregation, and delivery to different data storage systems.
Build self-serve data platforms that let engineers, data scientists, and analysts safely discover data, define contracts, and create and operate pipelines with minimal friction.
Partner with the broader Infrastructure, Platform, and product engineering to drive architectural decisions across storage, compute, deployment, and orchestration to align the data ecosystem with Patreon’s roadmap.
Build the tooling, monitoring, and observability that gives engineers confidence in the data platform's reliability and performance.
Mentor other engineers on infrastructure and streaming best practices, and help shape the long-term data infrastructure roadmap.
What you'll need:
8+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years focused on data or platform infrastructure.
Deep, hands-on experience architecting both batch (Airflow, Dagster, or similar) and stream processing systems at scale (Spark, Flink, Kafka Streams, or similar).
Familiarity with data quality, lineage, observability, and governance tooling.
Strong programming skills in Python (Java, Scala, or Go a plus) and SQL.
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and broad fluency across data stores: Object storage (S3), RDMS (MySQL, or Postgres, etc.), Key value (DynamoDB), OLAP (Clickhouse, Pinot, or Druid, etc.), search/indexing (Elasticsearch) plus data flow patterns for keeping them in sync with source systems.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills; comfortable driving cross-functional infrastructure decisions.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or the equivalent.
Bonus if you have:
Experience with Delta Lake/Iceberg, AWS, or Databricks.
Contributed to open-source streaming or infrastructure tooling.

You'll join the Relevance team, whose mission is to build the ML systems that power how fans discover creators and how content surfaces across Patreon. The team is responsible for search, feed ranking, and creator-fan matching. You'll work closely with a small, collaborative group of MLEs on shared infrastructure, code reviews, and roadmap alignment, while partnering cross-functionally with Product, Data Engineering, and Trust & Safety to deliver measurable impact across the platform.

Architect, scale, and maintain high-throughput, low-latency live inference infrastructure to support our relevance systems.
Own the end-to-end feature store lifecycle—from ingestion and transformation to production serving, ensuring high availability and consistency between online and offline features.
Design and implement observability, monitoring, and validation frameworks to detect performance gaps, latency spikes, and production drift.
Collaborate with cross-functional partners, such as product, data engineering, and trust and safety, to translate product requirements into robust, scalable infrastructure solutions.
Automate model deployment and reliability testing to improve developer velocity and ensure system stability.
Debug complex relevance systems when monitoring identifies performance bottlenecks or reliability issues.
