ABOUT THE ROLE
Design and implement the build, CI/CD, and tooling infrastructure that Poolside's researchers and engineers rely on every day. You'll join our infrastructure team as the second engineer focused on developer experience, partnering closely with the person who owns this area today while sharing on-call, incident response, and platform ownership with the wider team. You'll make our monorepo fast, our builds reproducible, and our Python ecosystem coherent, leveraging automation to multiply your impact across every team at Poolside.
YOUR MISSION
Make it seamless for our researchers and engineers to build, test, and ship. You'll take on significant ownership of our build and CI/CD systems, with the support of an established infrastructure team behind you.
RESPONSIBILITIES
You will be responsible for designing and managing the infrastructure required by Poolside's engineers and researchers. Leveraging automation to multiply your impact is essential for this role. Additionally, you will develop tools and solutions aimed at increasing the efficiency of our engineering teams.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Build Systems
Strong hands-on experience with Bazel — writing and maintaining rules, macros, and toolchains
Familiarity with remote caching and build optimisations
CI/CD
Experience setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines, preferably Buildkite
Comfortable with dynamic pipelines, agent fleet management, and build-time optimization
Python ecosystem
Strong Python proficiency, including packaging, dependency management (uv/pip/Poetry), and virtual environments
Experience integrating Python and ML/research codebases into a monorepo build system
Proficient in Go
Experience writing backend services
Familiarity writing CLI applications and internal developer tooling
Debugging and Problem-Solving
Expertise in debugging issues on Linux, including network and process-related problems
Containerization and Orchestration
Experience running containers using Kubernetes
Experience with managed or self-hosted Kubernetes
Cloud Services
Familiarity with AWS services
Comfortable managing IAM policies and ensuring proper permission settings
Hands-on experience with Terraform or OpenTofu for managing complex AWS environments
Operations & Collaboration
Skilled in observability and monitoring tools and practices
Experienced in incident response protocols and best practices
Comfortable working within a broader infrastructure team — sharing on-call, contributing to incident response, and building tooling other engineers depend on

ABOUT THE ROLE
You’ll be working in the compute team focusing on GPU workload scheduling and inference serving optimization. You would partner with the inference team to improve our inference throughput and latency for evals and reinforcement learning. You would collaborate with our scalability team to focus on stabilizing our large scale fault tolerant training. You would also be in close contact with the infra team to make sure our GPU nodes are all healthy and fully utilized.
We are one of the key teams to improve the research velocity. Any improvement on our systems has a wide impact on researchers and can contribute to the poolside mission on building a frontier model.
YOUR MISSION
To optimize GPU utilization across the company and to deliver stable and scalable inference serving stack for Poolside’s researchers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and develop internal scheduling system to maximize GPU utilization
Build API and tooling to help manage the lifecycle of GPU workloads and troubleshoot failures
Design and improve inference control plane to speed up model deployment and inference request serving
Collaborate with research to improve research velocity continuously
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Strong programming skills in Go, or other similar languages
Strong systems engineering background: distributed systems, schedulers, control planes, or high-throughput data planes.
Production experience with Kubernetes internals — controllers, informers, operators — not just deploying to it.
Bias toward observability and debuggability: building a system that is easy to navigate when debugging production issues
Plus: experience in systems serving large scale inference requests

Poolside is a fully remote company. Once a month, the whole team meets in person for a week, usually in London and sometimes elsewhere. Between those weeks there's still a lot going on in our office: events, vendor visits, deliveries and the everyday things that keep a space running. That's why we need someone on the ground.
Unlike most workplace roles, this one doesn't mean being in the office every day. You'll come in when it matters and work remotely the rest of the time, like everyone else at Poolside.
The role brings together two things: how Poolside works together in person, and how it feels to work here. You'll own our office, travel and on-sites. Working closely with our People leader, you'll also shape the culture, engagement and growth experiences that help our team thrive as we scale. You'll work with the whole company, from engineers to leadership, as well as external partners. To do that well you need a strong service mindset.
Workplace & operations
Run day-to-day workplace operations: facilities, vendors, supplies, fruit and food deliveries, maintenance, and health & safety
Own and improve travel management: work closely with Finance and the wider company to make business travel smooth, cost-conscious and well supported
Own the logistics for our monthly on-sites: venues, accommodation, travel, catering and agendas, whether in London or abroad, so every on-site week runs smoothly
Manage relationships with the landlord, building management and external vendors, along with office budgets and contracts
Support onboarding and offboarding on the workplace side: access and equipment handover with IT
People experience
Bring our culture to life: create and look after the rituals, traditions and moments that make Poolside feel like Poolside, even as a remote team
Design and run engagement programs together with our People leader, from pulse checks and recognition to acting on what we hear
Design team on-sites and leadership sessions with our People leader and leadership team: formats, agendas and experiences that bring people together with purpose
Help build our development and growth fabric: learning sessions, workshops, mentoring and other programs that help people grow at Poolside
Shape the employee journey, from a memorable first day to milestones along the way
