Quora's Security team is responsible for protecting the company's most critical assets from both external threats and insider risks. We're a small, high-ownership team with a pragmatic, builder-oriented approach: we build where commercial solutions don't fit, leverage AI to work efficiently at scale, and move fast to stay ahead of real-world threats.
We're looking for a Detection & Corporate Security Engineer to strengthen both our preventative and detection capabilities across corporate and production environments. This is a genuinely hybrid role: you'll build and maintain detection systems while also owning the corporate security controls that protect our employee fleet and internal infrastructure. This role will be working on our Quora product.
The Data Team is highly empowered at Quora, helping navigate complexity and influencing product and company strategy directly. Quora's outsized commitment to data is visible in everything we do, from our sophisticated experimentation processes to the backgrounds of our leaders. With this emphasis on data and empirics, we aim to balance rigor and pragmatism, searching for scrappy solutions in pursuit of our mission. In joining Quora's strong data team, you'll both benefit from and help advance our culture of rational decision making.
As a member of our team, you'll work closely with product managers, product designers, engineers, and other cross-functional partners to devise appropriate measurements and metrics, design randomized controlled experiments, build visualizations, and tackle hard, open-ended problems that uncover usage patterns and opportunities across Quora. Quora has a wide range of rich data, giving you ample room for exploration and creativity.
Data scientists at Quora work across multiple domains, including user growth, content quality, monetization, personalization, marketplace dynamics, and long-term company strategy. Example projects include modeling long-term growth, improving the relevance and personalization of the homepage feed, analyzing drivers of user engagement and question-asking behavior, optimizing marketplace efficiency, and evaluating the effectiveness of monetization initiatives.
Own well-scoped, impactful problem spaces across product and business domains — from framing the question, to conducting the analysis, to working with cross-functional partners to implement solutions
Design and evaluate experiments to measure the impact of product and strategic changes
Analyze data from across the product to uncover root causes of metric movements
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to inform product decisions with data
Contribute to tools, methodologies, and frameworks that help make the data team and the company as a whole smarter about data
Availability for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora's “coordination hours\" (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time)
2+ years work experience in an analytical or quantitative role, including 1+ as a Data Scientist or similar title
Demonstrated ability to independently drive data analyses that inform product or business decisions
Proficiency with statistical techniques (e.g. regression, hypothesis testing, causal inference) and their practical application
Effective communication skills, including the ability to translate business needs into analytical questions and to explain technical results to cross-functional partners
Experience using a procedural programming language (e.g. Python, R) for data manipulation, modeling, and analysis; comfort working in a production codebase
Strong judgment that blends quantitative rigor with product intuition and common sense
Experience evaluating experiments or recommender systems in offline analysis and online experiments
Experience with large data sets and distributed computing tools (e.g. Presto/Trino)

There are many factors that will determine the starting pay, including but not limited to experience, location, education, and business needs.
US candidates only: For US based applicants, the salary range is $122,000 - $173,117 USD + equity + benefits.
Canada candidates only: For Toronto and Vancouver based applicants, the salary range is $156,650 - $177,828 CAD + equity + benefits. For all other locations in Canada, the salary range is $146,206 - $165,972 CAD + equity + benefits.
